The Battery Saver feature is unique to Mack and Volvo’s new truck platform, designed to eliminate the surprise of dead batteries that occur from electrical loads that draw energy while parked. The Battery Saver controls are dedicated to preserving the life of the battery and ensuring that the truck has enough energy to start, even after sitting for long periods of time.
NOTE: The Battery Saver function is intended to preserve the life of the batteries while parked and should not be confused with the main battery disconnect switch. The Battery Saver function is only active when there is no key in the ignition
When the Battery Saver timer function is activated, the control system will disconnect select electrical circuits from the batteries. The automated timer feature is the default control and will activate Battery Saver timer at 2-hour and 16-hour intervals, if not manually activated by the driver via the dash mounted switch or the key fob.
Examples of circuits disconnected by Battery Saver timer
At the 2-Hour Interval
- Climate system
- Window motors
- Wiper/washer system
- Mirror controls
- Transport management items
- Door locks
- Interior lighting
- Audio
At the 16-Hour Interval
- Refrigerator
Note: The 16-hour disconnect interval for the refrigerator is applied unless the Battery Saver System (665 family) is specified with mid- or high-level battery protection, and the battery state of charge (SOC) is detected low enough to risk not cranking the engine. In these cases, the disconnect interval for the refrigerator will reduce in time proportionate to the SOC to ensure reserve power remains sufficient to crank the engine.
Automated Timer
As stated above, the default automated timer will initiate Battery Saver per the 2 and 16-hour intervals if not manually activated otherwise.
Key Fob
This feature is available when the vehicle is specified with the high-level key fob which provides the driver extensive remote vehicle control. As stated above, the default automated timer will initiate Battery Saver per the 2 and 16-hour intervals if not manually activated otherwise.
Dash Mounted Switch
Allows the driver to manually activate Battery Saver from inside the cab. As stated above, the default automated timer will initiate Battery Saver per the 2 and 16-hour intervals if not manually activated otherwise.
